droit.org
Portal
for French law
Guiding principles adopted
in May 1999 by the editorial committee of Droit.org
http://www.droit.org/ is, above all, a meeting place for jurists and information
experts to discuss the significance and possibilities for a
French Web site devoted to serving the public's and professionals' needs
in law-oriented (public-sector) information.
The pages presently shown are experimental in content. An editorial
committee is discussing what 'droit.org' should become.
Droit.org is the initiative of an association, which draws mainly on the
resources of the "Centre de Recherches en Informatique" (Research Center
on Information) of the Ecole des Mines (School of Mines) of Paris.

Communiqué of January 7th, 1999
The site http://www.droit.org/ intends to bring together diverse individual
and group initiatives dedicated to making available legal material which
applies to France: the constitution, treaties, laws, decrees, decisions
and circulars, as well as jurisprudence.
These documents are not exclusively French but more and more European and
international.
Droit.org intends to become THE portal for French law, without claim of
exclusivity.
Offering access to various documents already available on official and
private sites, it makes a vital addition: a proprietary search engine,
based on a text's position in a hierarchy of texts.
Droit.org seeks to become a meeting ground where jurists and information
experts can pool their knowledge to offer a quality service, at no cost
to its users.
An editorial committee is in formation. You may offer your candidature
by writing to: webmaitre@droit.org
In this way you can contribute to building the first genuine Web site dedicated
to French law.
